Building Community through Service
“The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches, but reveal to them their own.” – Disraeli

Society of Latino Engineers
As current Corporate Liaison and previous Outreach Director, I have dedicated myself to college mentorship at the highest level. I enjoy providing love and support and building community, particularly when it is centered around diversity, residential education, and STEM.I have organized an annual mentorship program where Stanford students commute the San Jose, where the city hosts their annual Tech Challenge to students of all ages at the Tech Museum. The students at the Third Street Community Center are excited to compete in these challenges, but are under-resourced. Coming from an area where opportunities were limited, and resources were scarce, I knew that mentoring these kids would open a world of creative problem solving that will affect every aspect of their lives and their future. I have also invited companies to talk and present to our organization, informing our members about the opportunities available to them as a minority in STEM.

Stanford Summer Engineering Academy (SSEA)
I was both a Resident Assistant, Course Assistant, and more recently, a Resident Fellow, for SSEA. SSEA a program for incoming Stanford Freshmen with the goal of attracting a more diverse student body to the School of Engineering. The program consists of an intensive schedule of classes, homework, and activities related to these subjects. It was the perfect mentorship platform. I was able to where transform these students’ lives by making them aware of the importance of their choices and the wealth of opportunities STEM offers. I was a course assistant for introductory calculus, held office hours, and helped to form a strong and loving community that was hopefully to last throughout their Stanford career.

Casa Zapata - Stanford University
I am currently a Resident Assistant at Casa Zapata, where I am forging a space for thoughtful conversation and inclusivity across several spectra of identity. The community formed in this dorm is essential to the well-being of many of our residents, and having the ability to mold it into a respectful and kind space makes all the difference. I do this by facilitating discussions about topics ranging from mental health to academic resources on and off campus, and by simply being present in the dorm.
